Things All Cat Owners Should Know

If you are planning to adopt a cat, you should understand that it is your responsibility to care for your cat. While cats are very independent animals, they still need you. Before adopting a cat, there are a few things all cat owners should know.

Litter Boxes

There is more to setting up a litter box than simply filling it with litter and sticking it in a corner. If your cat is not happy with the litter box, he may have accidents in the house. If you have multiple cats, you are going to need to have multiple litter boxes. If your cats don't feel that they have enough space, they might do their business elsewhere.

If you have a large home and your cats have full reign, you might want to place a litter box on each floor. This will ensure that your cats will have ample time to get to the litter box no matter where they are.

Finally, if your cat seems unwilling to use the litter box, there are a few things that you should consider. First, he or she may not like the litter that you are using. Try using a litter that has no scent. If you have a large cat, you can try a larger litter box. Many cats like privacy when they do their business. Therefore, if you don't have a litter box with a cover, you might want to consider getting one.

Annual Check-Ups

It is essential that your cat sees the vet and least once every year. During your annual visit, your cat's weight will be checked to be sure that he or she is at a healthy weight. Your vet will also check your cat’s eyes, mouth, fur, and skin to check for allergies or other medical conditions. Finally, the vet will make sure that your pet is up-to-date on all vaccinations. Regular checkups are great for you also because you will have a chance to ask questions and bring up any concerns that you may have about your cat.

If you are planning to adopt a cat, once you have all of the necessities, you should make an appointment with Pleasant View Veterinary Clinic. We see patients in the Lewistown and Mifflintown areas.
